Where is everybody ?

Vathia is a town that has clearly suffered from the depopulation of the southern Mani. It is a substantial group of tower-houses at the top of an arid mountain that now has a few occupied houses and the remainder slowly fade in the bright sun. It features in Colonel Leake’s account of his travels, where he is warned to avoid going through the village in 1805 as there was a feud between two families in the town that had been running for forty years.
