Facebook Humour Regression
No, this isn't a critique of how our sense of humour has been reduced or simplified due to the evils of social media. Today I embarrassingly chuckled out loud on simple trundle around Home & Bargain. My random laugh was from a daft connection between a bottle of cracked nipple cream on the shelf, and a silly off hand comment and old friend had posted this week about a nasty swimming pool based man boob injury he had suffered. Ok, it's not the intellectual Telegraph impressing output of the legendary Mort Sahl, but it was a Hugh & Laurie style 'honour the daft 'post that reminded me of adolescence and the freedom of funny for funny's sake.
As kids we laughed at Jimmy Cricket, people farting and names that sounded almost rude. We still laugh at these things in the privacy of our own juvenility, but somehow we edit our humour to show value to maturity.
I love that Facebook and the likes have enabled us to just post, like and share daft things that make us smile. YouTube videos, ecards and random rants are a daily treat. No reviews or comparisons to comedy greats, just an *lol* and a click to spread the lol-itude.
Even in this description, I'm showing huge hypocrisy and defying my compliment to childish ways by over egging what could of simply been "stuff was loads funnier when we where kids."
Anyway, I inboxed my mate to share the photo of a remedy to his manly chest scuff and I gratefully received an *LOL* in his reply. Score
