Sunday Lunch
Unfortunately for this hover fly it wasn't an invite, it was the main course itself. A few seconds after this shot was taken the fly had been completely paralysed, then expertly wrapped in spider silk before being dragged off up into the spider's lair.
I was going to blip one of the numerous different types flitting about the garden, then three buzzards appeared overhead and I went to get the zoom lens to snap them. It didn't click at the time but the fact that our very white guinea pig Casper was chomping on the lawn may possibly have been the attraction for these birds of prey. No danger though, Samantha quickly whipped him up and got him reluctantly back into safety.
Ain't nature brilliant?
EDIT: Some more images of this spider take-away.
