Angel with pot of paint.
Paint Pot Angel
Banksy, born 1974, Bristol.
During a flying visit to Bristol I managed to fit in a visit to the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery. They have some wonderful things, including a stuffed Thylacine, the extinct Tasmanian Marsupial wolf.
However, I was particularly drawn to this piece by Banksy, best known for his stencil style graffiti street art. Here he has altered a statue of an Angel, the sort of thing you might find in any Victorian cemetery, by tipping a pot of paint over its head. Apparently, the idea is to challenge what people expect to see in a museum of this kind. Hmm!
