"Encounter" at LAX

The "jet age" building at LAX (Los Angeles International Airport) is now a restaurant with a magnificent view of the airport and its surroundings. It is called "Encounter." Built in 1961, it was designed by a team of architects and engineers headed by William Pereira and Charles Luckman, that also included Paul Williams and Welton Becket. The initial design of the building was created by James Langenheim, of Pereira & Luckman.
Renovated in 1997, it reminded me of the Jetsons cartoon show and the TV series called "I Love Genie." It is truly an L.A. landmark, and an example of Mid-Century Modern architecture. We had a lot of fun touring it with my son, the architect, while waiting to pick up my brother.
