Colchicum alpinum

Freshly in flower, this is one of the smallest colchicum that will grow outside here. I saw them in flower in Saas Fee in August a few years ago, looking for all the world like the spring crocuses, dotted about in short turf. When you get up close you can see the sticky hairs on the end of the style, waiting to catch pollen grains.
