Vacation Moments at Newport Balboa Peninsula
This morning at about 7:30 we rode the tandem bicycle from our vacation house 2 miles to the coast at Huntington Beach. Then we turned toward Newport and rode south all the way to the end of the Newport Balboa Peninsula where the channel opens into the sea (seen in the bottom left frame). Across the channel is Corona del Mar. The top 2 frames are looking toward the Balboa pier and the bottom right frame is on the ride back as we're looking at the Newport pier. We rode a couple of hours and probably a grand total of about 15 or so miles.
On a tandem bicycle the front rider is called the "captain" and the back rider is the "stoker." Thankfully none of these glimpses were taken when the sidewalk/bike path were heavily populated with walkers and joggers--some pushing baby strollers, some pulling wagons, as well as skaters, and cyclists--presenting all ages from young children to elderly. It gets a little tight maneuvering through the populated sections near the pier where all the shops are located. Those are the moments when the captain and the stoker come close to arguing because this stoker gets a little freaked-out! Also, since the stoker is the one handling the camera, this blip offers only the view of the captain and beyond. Maybe this coming week, we'll hand the camera to a stranger to capture us both pedaling.
We stopped at the Segway store (mentioned in yesterday's blip) and peeked in, but they were not open yet. We've decided that if we take a Segway tour it won't be till Monday after the weekend crowds have gone home.
We hope you enjoy our vacation/holiday view here near the Pacific Ocean in Southern California. That's it for today. We'll be back to commenting next weekend when we get home to our wireless. Till then, we're sure thankful that the public libraries along the coast have free WiFi.
