WIGs

After a less-manic, but really productive day at work, I met Laura and went along to my first ever WI meeting! I was there as a guest to hear someone talk about the clothes and wardrobe collection of our local museum. She talked through a slide show and had brought several items in for us to have a closer inspection. This corset has an 18" waist, and these pink shoes date from the 1800s; they don't have a left or right foot. My favourite item was this beautiful bag, which incredibly also dates from the 1800s. Another highlight was an intricate silk scarf designed by ladies in 1881, featuring illustrations imagining how women's rights would have advanced by 1981. They predicted women would very much be ruling the world in all areas... if only!
