City vs Rovers

It's over 6 years since Bristol City played Bristol Rovers and there's no love lost between the rival football supporters. It's a few seasons since I've been to Ashton Gate, the home of Bristol City, and it was a great atmosphere with an attendance approaching 20,000 for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Cup Tie, also featured on Sky Sports as it happens.

There were a few crowd skirmishes, several fans on the pitch during the game and a pretty good pitch invasion after the game. Some trouble was always expected, it's a tradition. The final result was 2-1 to Bristol City and, to be fair, all three goals were well worth watching.

Since parking can be tricky around the ground and traffic is usually pretty heavy before and after, I decided to take the bus to the city centre and walk the remainder, which actually took longer than I thought, about 35 minutes. I'm glad I did though as, on the way to the match, I bumped into a fellow golfer who I hadn't seen for few weeks, and hence caught up with the latest news from the club we play at and, on the way back to the bus stop after the match, I caught up with a work colleague and good friend I hadn't seen for a while. We decided to call into a couple of pubs on the way and had a good catch up.

It turns out that we were sat outside supping beer when we spotted the No.75 bus that I needed to catch, so I hastily said goodbye and made a dash to the bus stop. Now, my sprint ain't what it used to be, consequently I missed the bus. Never mind, 35 minutes to the next one so why not have another drink. And, as luck would have it, I stumbled into a bar with a bit of live music, so enjoyable was it that I nearly missed the next bus too! What a great evening.

Ooops, I've just realised that its 12:40 in the morning and I need to be up for work at 06:15.
