Ancient Yews
After gardening all day yesterday and getting up to such a beautiful sunny morning today we just had to go off for the day.
We knew all about the ancient Yew trees in our area but had never made an effort to visit them.
We saw the one at Lorton first but were disappointed to find it was in a garden and the house owner had stacked logs and boulders around the trunk so not good for photos.
We then headed up the Borrowdale valley to Seathwaite and walked along the back of the river and found the 4 Borrowdale Yews at over 1500 years old they were well weather beaten.
When I got home my only problem was choosing the most interesting of all the pictures I took.
PS When I got home the farmer had been and cut the long hedge. So I have a subject to blip tomorrow.
