Harbour at Barfleur, Normandy
This is the harbour from which William the Conqueror's fleet set out in 1066.
When the tide is high and the harbour full of water, one can imagine all those little ships, illustrated on the Bayeux Tapestry, waiting to set sail for England; when the tide is low, many boats are left sitting on the mud!
We had just arrived from England ourselves when I took this picture, travelling with our campervan from Poole to Cherbourg on the Brittany Ferry named "Barfleur"!
