Battered
I didn't think i would ever post the Australian Magpie, not being one of my favourite birds, this one this morning however was just sitting there looking bewildered and just asking to be blipped! He had just been chased off by a little willy wagtail who obviously had his nest close by and this intruder got battered and told to clear off!
The Maggie can be quite an aggressive bird during breeding season August-November, usually the male will swoop on other birds and even humans can be swooped from behind clipping ears and heads as he thinks fit! during the nesting period. Then its our turn to get battered!
They live in groups of up to 24 birds in a flock, usually several females nesting, dominated by just one male who will defend his temporary territory.
They hunt for their food along the ground hopping or walking on their very strong large feet, he is essentially like the butcher bird. He is widespread throughout Australia and has been introduced into NewZealand. He got his name from the European Crow.
I think this one wondered what hit him after the little willy-wagtail gave him a battering he wasn't expecting!
Its a beautiful day in Perth today, after a wet cooler day yesterday, this feels more like Spring, it was light by 6.30am, definitely a change in the air!
