Ruddy Shelduck
Having spent all that time at Rye Meads yesterday, picking out a single female Pintail, a juvenile Ringed Plover, four Common Snipe and three Green Sandpiper. We somehow managed to miss these two rather large orange birds. I say "we" but can't really blame Mrs L. We'd arrived at the Gadwall hide at lunchtime, but before settling down to our sarnies I went and quickly checked out the next door Teal hide for the Shelduck, not there, so back to the better positioned Gadwall hide it faces north as opposed to directly south into the sun and has better habitat and therefore a better selection of birds. The penny didn't even drop when we walked out and the guy on reception asked if we'd seen the Shelduck from the Teal hide!
I returned alone today to rectify the error.
