Out for a duck on a wild goose chase...
I happened to notice on the Scottish sports news (not something I watch until the Six Nations is on) and I saw the the Scotland Cricket Team were playing the Aussies today! Wow! A big One Day Match. I checked where it was: Grange Cricket Club. I knew where that was - Grange Road, of course. Checked the prices - £10 Seniors. What could be better?
This morning I popped over to visit a friend in her new flat. She sold her bungalow- wait for it - in twenty minutes!! The flat is great, near the shops, with a lovely shared back garden and sunny. She’s so happy there.
From there I got a couple of buses across to the Grange Cricket Ground on Grange Road. I knew exactly where it was. Except that when I got there, it was empty. Gates locked. The gates, indeed, proclaimed ‘Carlton Cricket Club’. How could this be?
A man came over and told me I wasn’t the first person today to ask where the game was. Apparently, when the ‘Grange Cricket Club’ moved to Stockbridge, they took the name with them! How very silly! I got the bus through town.
By the time I got there it was past 1pm. I reckoned I could get in for half price, as half the game was over, and got my £5 out.
‘No half price tickets, hen.’
‘Can’t you ask anyone?’
‘They’re all at their lunch. We’re just doing what we’re told.’
Eventually, I relented and got out the £10. She looked at me like I was a bit daft.
‘£31. This is an international.’
Needless to say, I stomped off.
While walking back to the bus, I caught sight of these two, down at the end of a driveway, sitting out in the sun watching the world go by. I walked past. I stopped. I went back and walked in to them. I asked if I could take a photo. ('Got a new camera'.. etc)
Star and Linda. Linda has been clearing out and renovating her late father's wee flat, behind. Star is a full Alsatian. I asked if it was Linda’s dog (it’s been in the news recently - and indeed on blip - about big dogs knocking folk over).
No, it’s her son’s dog. She has two house trained dwarf rabbits.
‘Pardon?’
'Two house trained dwarf rabbits.'
Much more sensible.
