Wounded in action
The Old Man took a tumble when his walker toppled over on loose shale in the old Rosebush Slate quarry. Shamefully we had been distracted by the discovery of a late crop of whinberries and were out of sight when concerned locals found him of the ground and called the emergency services.
The cheery ambulance men checked him over and bandaged his gashed forehead. He didn't appear to be badly hurt but in old age any fall can have serious consequences so we drove him to the local hospital. Faced with a wait of up to 4 hours in A&E he decided to go home and have a cup of tea instead.
The Old Man survived the Normandy landings and fought his way through Northern France unscathed; Pembrokeshire slate can make a nasty enemy but even at the age of 91 it failed to lay him low for long.
