After our French classes this morning, I met up with a few people to go for lunch. So we took the metro to ‘vieux Lyon’ in the hope to find a café or restaurant to get something to eat. We walked for ages along the Saone with no clue where we were going. So we decided to make our way into the centre of town to find something that would suit each one of us.
I think maybe we slightly underestimated how important food actually is here. Rather than getting a quick sandwich for lunch as I’m used to back home, people often take between 1 and 2 hours to eat in the afternoon. (Rachael, I think the importance of food here would probably be right up your street!) At the end of our very filling meal we each decided to go all out and have a café gourmand with our meal – an espresso with several little sweet treats. As I’m not a big fan of coffee, I drank the espresso first and saved the little desserts to enjoy individually afterwards. – what a fatty, I know!
After a little bit of a wander after our meal, we each made our way back home. I felt I had to do some form of exercise to justify the big lunch I’d had, so went for a cheeky swim before dinner.
The only thing we’ll have uni-wise for the next two weeks is French lessons to adapt somewhat to the language before the actual course really starts. So we’ll probably be living the tourist life for a few days longer, but that suits me just fine.
