Island Life 5: Heir Island revisited
Technically I should have been slaving over a hot infant or two, but instead the first day of the new term found me larking around on Heir Island ! Himself and I headed off to Cunnamore to catch the 10am ferry to Heir Island withBat and CarolineL , our monthly blipmeet. The weather was glorious - warm, sunny, heart lifting. We walked, blipped, chatted the length and some of the breadth of the island. Gentle farm land dotted with little whitewashed houses gives way to a rugged heather and gorse strewn headland with impressive cliffs. We sat and stared and admired the huge view - so much glittering sea, vibrant colours and masses of islands, large and small, inhabited and empty. We picniced here, what could pass for a Caribbean beach - white sand, turquoise water and I swam, while the others paddled. The small figure is a man, rather unromantically throwing old pasta into the water. The seagulls enjoyed it.
Blissful and hardly a soul around. We did wonder about the difficulties of living in such a seemingly idyllic spot as we watched the rubbish bags and recycling being loaded onto the ferry. It's an awful long way from any shops and what do you do for fuel? One mother was on the ferry heading off to pick up her child from school, quite a way away.
Back home and a bit of lawn mowing followed by another swim! Hedonistic or obsessed or both, but do it while I can!
Do take a look at son#2s tranformation of his van, Ian the Wonderbus. originally a demure beige, as befits a vicar its original owner, it has been rather jazzily restyled!
