The Great Mill at Skerries

The town of Skerries in North County Dublin is famous for its fishing fleet but in days gone by the entire surrounding area was a big market gardening centre and grain growing area. There are many many old mills round about, most of which have fallen into total disrepair and collapsed over the years. In the town itself though two such windmills and a water mill have been lovingly restored and the land around them turned into a visitors park.
This is the larger of the two mills. Note that rather than 4 it has 5 sails. Five sailed windmills are not all that common which is a bit of a wonder really as they are smoother running and easier to balance than the four sailed versions. I suppose the extra complexity and heavier construction put off many prospective builders.
