Doughnut Man

This is one of the doughnut men on the beach. There are many beach sellers in St George – the doughnut men, watch/bracelet/sunglasses vendors, masseuses, fruit sellers and so on.

This photo was actually taken in Marathias, which is a short drive away from St George. You can actually walk here in any case, if you join the beach in the South of St George and keep walking for about an hour. From the shoreline here you can look back north and see the whole of the resort and the sand dunes where it finishes. A funny cloudy day, muggy and with the threat of storm in the air – the waves were really rough and the whole scene (waves and clouds) reminded me more of the west coast of France than anywhere in the Mediterranean.

After the beach trip Simone and I then spent the afternoon in Sunset with Emma and the kids, followed by dinner at Balcony Restaurant with Michaela, one of the Olympic reps. Somehow got roped into going to karaoke at Europa bar afterwards with the Sunset family and wound up singing “Uptown Girl” with Emma and her friend. Singing is not my forte….
