New Zealand dotterel
We've been a bit busy the last few days, moving what little stuff we have in the new house out into the garage or caravan, ready for painters to come in tomorrow. So once it was all done it was good to have a day off and go exploring up the coast.
Some lovely coastline and interesting places - and delighted to find some pairs of NZ dotterel at Scandrett Regional Park. In full breeding plumage, probably about to nest in the sand above the high tide mark on the narrow beaches. This species is quite uncommon, so they deserve all the protection they can get to breed successfully and keep their numbers up.
