GOLDEN BOY

Meet Wilfred James Mannion (1918-2000) – known as Wilf – was a star centre forward who played for both Boro and England. He was called The Golden Boy –a grand chap indeed.
He current day counterpart, The Juke, had a wonderful game, although he was battered and bruised throughout.

SPORTY BITS . . .

At one stage the Tigers up 18-0, and one of the Yorkshire lads - Sam Burgess - was sin binned after just four minutes. However he later scored a try, as did brother Luke.

TOP OF THE TABLE – 2 . . . In cricket . . . Yorkshire remain top in spite of a mauling by another Northern County not far from here.

NOT TOP OF THE TABLE – 3 . . . Boro drew again today but they did play some grand footie today.
