Bayleaf
Bayleaf is a timber framed hall house dating mainly from the early 15th century. We explored this lovely Wealden farmhouse at the Weald and Downland Museum in West Sussex. All the buildings here, traditional homes and workplaces, have been rescued from destruction, dismantled and painstakingly re-erected on the Museum site. Bayleaf was removed from the site of a planned reservoir and another cottage was in the way of the Channel Tunnel. All are reconstructed as they would have been built, with later extensions and alterations removed. Bayleaf itself had been thoroughly modernised with electricity and plumbing, but today we saw it as it was originally with an open hall with a fire on the floor in the middle.
As well as exploring many different buildings the boys played skittles, tried to bowl a hoop and walk on stilts and scratched a pig's back!
After the Museum we took the short ride down to the coast and watched people playing about with boats at Bosham Quay. It was a day full of variety with something for everyone.
