Saturday Stroll

We aren't taking part in any event activities until late afternoon today, and I wanted to get my blip done before then, so we walked to the Saturday farmers' market in the heart of downtown Toronto this morning with friends, knowing we'd likely find good photo ops there.

We'd all had a very late night, as the informal singing of Welsh hymns -- one of the main reasons many of us attend this annual event -- didn't begin until after midnight last night. Breakfast was on our minds when we arrived at the St. Lawrence Market, built more than 200 years ago and now housing 120 vendors, merchants, and artisans. We quickly found some breakfast goodies and ate them while watching the steady stream of shoppers. This market is open Tuesday through Saturday, while the farmers' market, housed in an adjacent building, nearby small park, and along the sidewalks, is open on Saturday from 5:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Local peaches, plums, berries, apples, pears, and a wide range of vegetables were abundant, along with cheeses, meats, baked goofs, honey, and much more. A tiny maple syrup and pecan tart was irresistible, as was an almond chocolate croissant, a wholewheat roll, some fine cheese, pears, and peaches.

The farmers and vendors were delightful to talk with, and we could have happily spent most of the day there. No fancy shops for us!

Now it's time for another fine cup of Welsh tea and some Welsh cakes to tide us over until a seminar at 5:00 p.m. and the Grand Concert this evening -- followed by hymn singing in late evening, but I hope not as late as yesterday! (Added a couple of hours later -- just noticed how blurry this is, and saw that I shot it on my iPhone at f2.4 and 1/20th second -- oh well! Travel is great, but I really miss my iMac and the ease of dealing with photos on it.)
