The Guardian of the Valleys

This is the Guardian statue on the site of the Six Bells coal mine near Abertillery. It commemorates the lives of 45 miners who were lost in the worst disaster in the pits history in June 1960.

The statue was designed by Sebastian Boyesen and is made up of thousands of steel ribbons.
