Mountains of the Rakaia

Today we spent on the snow, at Porters Skifield. This is the view looking west into the Rakaia Headwaters, taken from the ridge, at 1960 metres.

Mt Cotton is the closest snowy peak, with the high peaks on the Main Divide behind. The two highest peaks, immediately behind Mt Cotton, are Mt Whitcombe on the left, and Mt Evans on the right. The two smaller mounds in the foreground are remnants of ancient volcanoes.

The Wilberforce River can be seen on the far right. It is a major tributary to the Rakaia River. A small part of Lake Coleridge is on the far left behind Mt Cotton.

A stunning day!
