Fresh and Oh So Good

This morning we left Rome and drove north to Siena which is every bit as wonderful as anything you've seen or heard about it. But for all the beauty at every turn, it was lunch that I'll remember. Eating in Rome was either rushed or served up for a group of forty-some. In Siena, we could smell bread baking as soon as we entered the big square. Eric and I slipped off to eat in a cafe on a shady street. Hadn't realized how much I was craving fresh salad. Mine was insalada misti con pecorino di Pienza, while Eric ate Panzanella, aTuscan bread salad made with day old bread marinated in tomatoes, oil, vinegar, and herbs. And a basket of fresh bread and wine as refreshing as the water.
