A Picture That Says it All

I was going to try for something "artistic" this morning, but when this moving truck passed me, I chased it down to get its picture. If I was looking for a mover, I would most definitely hire this company just on the strength of their wonderful logo.

We have a friend who owns an advertising agency and has designed several elegant labels. One that came into our possession was called Black Kite, a cabernet with a big black bird with fierce red eyes on the label. OilMan has always been partial to wines with animals on the label, which our kids called "critter wines". We've gotten wines from California wineries called Stag's Leap , Frog's Leap (it says "ribbit" on the cork) and Iron Horse. Monkey Bay winery in New Zealand has a monkey and Yellow Tail in Australia has a kangaroo. The list goes on and on--turtles, whales, bears, cats and dogs.

I admit I have always been very influenced by an elegant or clever label. When it comes to wine, I have a theory that when confronted with shelf after shelf of wine, in the grocery store, or the wine shop, a lot of people will opt for a familiar critter in the sea of labels. Perhaps price has something to do with it as well, but when it comes to wine, that's a whole other ballgame....

We took our critter to the pet store today to buy him a new collar, since his old one has been into the water a few times too many. He came out with a black, brown gold and white leather one beaded by Masai women. And you wonder why we are influenced by wine labels with animals on them?

The cat on the moving van, you will have to admit, is more than just a cat. It is a perfect symbol for the tender loving care the company will give your possessions. Too bad we're never moving again....
