Murder and rescue
Last night as I was watering the zucchinis (or courgettes) when I noticed a grey bug. I didn't think much of it until I saw another one. And another. And then a whole group on a plant I thought I had killed. Gawdamnit.
So, I researched and sure enough: squash bugs.
I made a soapy grave and threw a lot of them in it. Mothers, fathers, children, unborn babies. I explained that needs must and I need my zucchinis so they must die. *sob*
This morning I got up to see if more of them had sprung overnight so I could kill some more. They had. I did. *sob*
And then I found a slug. I calmly explained I did not want it there and forcefully moved it to the apple tree area. Immediately regretting that decision I ran after it to pick it up and move out of yard. "There it is!" said I. And then: "Oh, there it is!" And again: "No, it's this one ... oh CRAP!"
I had landed in a slug community. Mothers, fathers, children ... etc.
It's been so warm and plain WET that apparently everything bugwise that can come into existence has. In my backyard.
I like slugs better than squash bugs but oh, I can't just have everything eating my stuff! *sigh*
After all that coming into work and being able to save a praying mantis and give it back its freedom was sheer joy.
Yes, I know I'm weird. I don't care :)
After a hellish week we had a beer at the Brewery, which was delightful and an awesome start to a three-day weekend. YAAAAAAAAAAAY!
