Window Into My World

Nostalgia

We were lucky enough to get on a tour of the wonderful, and beautifully restored Stockport Plaza. Dating back to 1932 this cinema/theatre has been undergoing painstaking restoration for many years, and with a wishlist of future projects for many years to come. Although a work in progress, there are many original features and faithful reproductions already in place.

The highlight had to be seeing the original Compton organ rise from the floor, and being treated to a couple of tunes on it. Wonderful!

Rather a hurried blip, taken as we filed past on our way to look backstage, but my favourite out of the photos I took. This is the lovely gentleman who brought the Compton to life with his playing.

The Plaza is run by volunteers, the quality of the restoration is staggering as is the amount of work and dedication put into this. If you ever find yourself in Stockport, it's well worth a visit - and at £6 for the very comprehensive tour, an excellent way to spend a morning.
