This canal goes from the River Blackwater at Heybridge to Chelmsford and it was built in 1797, the locks are wider than most canals but shorter, favouring large flat bottomed barges that brought bricks and coal up to Chelmsford.
It's about 20 miles long and has around a dozen locks and is navigable.
I never new it was there.......
