Grosvenor House...
Sounds very regal and posh, doesn't it? Though you might well think it's a derelict ghetto...
Look closely at the sign in the doorway on LARGE and you will see that this is currently Wiltshire Council's "Development Centre for Young People" - obviously budget constraints preclude a half decent building in which to safely include our youth in...
Close to Salisbury's railway station, I've often looked up at that domed art-deco (?) shell-like porch, with its crumbling paint and flaking plaster. And vegetation growing out the top. Usually in the daytime.
Then, I saw it at night, with the lights on (to deter burglars and vandals, but not photographers!, I presume, as it was the small hours) and the street lamp overhead left, casting a sickly yellow cast over it. That light is filtered by leaves that creates a pattern on the right had side of the doorway.
My Nikkor 10-24mm lens, on tripod and pointing up, took a few at different exposures, then back home, removed much of the strong yellow cast, whilst still retaining the reds. Black and white sort of worked but looked a bit flat... and boring. Colour, plus an amount of vignette, in this guise looked nicely ghostly and a bit Gothic.
Am feeling a bit better but decided not to go too far or for too long, hence this local, straightforward blip. Thanks for all your comments!
Thanks too for getting my Eight Poplars Blip of yesterday nicely up into the Spotlight - as ever, it is much appreciated.
I mentioned the other day that I had submitted some pics of an event at the local Arts Centre to the local paper. I haven't seen the paper copy yet but this online version shows the photo used plus article. No name credit this time, but the people involved are all friends and there was some cash exchanged....!
DVD boxset of choice now is BBC's 'Not The Nine O'Clock News' vol 1 & 2. Mel Smith, who died recently was part of this four strong team of satirical humour-pokers back in the late 80's, along with a young Pamela Stephenson (aka now Mrs Billy Connolly), Griff Rhys Jones and the young rubber-faced tomfoolery that is Rowan Atkinson. Both sets are currently £4.25 each from Amazon UK.
