STUCK!
After weeks without sight of the sparrowhawks they are back with a vengeance - the female in particular is around much of the day. I think it is an immature one though, rather than Madam; either that or she is very hungry or she's been on a sparrowhawk training course because she is using a very unusual technique. She will arrive very quickly and throw herself at the hawthorn hedge (which is very thick now) in the hope of catching a sparrow (which she usually does). This time though she threw herself at a gap in the fence from which there was no easy way out and there she stuck fast.
The commotion awoke Pixel from his slumbers on my knee and the sparrowhawk just escaped before Pixel reached him (not entirely sure he would have tackled him...)
PS
The lawn mower is OK! I managed to finish the lawn today (it's actually working better than before!)
