The beholder's eye

Fencepost jumper Marpissa muscosa

I really like jumping spiders, even if they do sometimes jump onto your camera.
This is the very beautiful Marpissa muscosa , I think it is the largest species of jumping spider found in the UK, with females reaching up to 11mm in length. They are flattened in shape and appear furry, with beautiful eyes!
In the UK it is found mainly in the South east, with scattered records elsewhere.
It is listed as Nb and is threatened due to loss of habitat.
It gets the name 'Fence post jumper' from it liking for old fence posts, and to be fair that is where I found this one today, at Iping Common.
Sometimes they can be very dull, but this beautiful female is well marked.
I know spiders can be creepy, but she is lovely too!
Enjoy
