Town's Garden Harvest
This year Keighley’s town centre gardens and floral displays have been outstanding. Everyone in town comments on how beautiful they have been ever since the beginning of the year. The displays have changed with each season and the variety and colours of the flowers have been stunning. Many congratulations must go to the independent gardeners contracted specially by the burgh to tend our gardens. But flowers aren’t the only thing they have been growing. Under an initiative between the town and our gardeners, and in agreement with local cafes, a variety of herbs and vegetable have been grown along with and among the flowers for use by the cafés’ chefs in the preparation of delicious fresh dishes. Many of the vegetables and herbs have already been harvested, but the picture I took today of the raised beds outside our former Technical College opposite the Town Hall Gardens shows some of these lovely healthy plants and herbs still flourishing and almost ready to be harvested.
