Idiosyncratic or esoteric?

This might seem an odd subject on which to Blip but I feel it is worth a mention.

I visited this Nottinghamshire recycling station today to acquire some paint. Why? I hear you ask.

Well Fiona and I are involved with a local charity called Rumbletums. This is a cafe set up specifically to provide work experience and development opportunities for young adults with learning difficulties. Fiona is a trustee and on the Board of management I am the humble odd-job man and kitchen helper (washing dishes).

Our County Council operates a paint recycling scheme whereby the public, paint contractors and organisations generally can donate unused or left-over paint which is then made available to charitable and community organisations such as ours - free of charge... a brilliant idea, simple and easy to operate. Very enlightened!

One of the major employers in Nottingham is Boots, the chemists, with several factories and HQ premises about the city, and they have a policy of offering teams of their employees from time to time to charities such as ours to do various jobs including painting and decorating. This reflects the Boots commitment to serving the community and also provides team-building opportunities to their organisation with various community-oriented projects.

So.... All this comes together through yours truly.

I coordinate the project with the responsible person at Boots; I estimate the paint requirements and obtain the paint; and on the appointed day I work with the Boots team on the redecoration of meeting rooms and office accommodation in our Rumbletums premises in Kimberley and look after them generally.

Brilliant idea don't you think?
Win-win scenarios all round!I like it.
