The Fruit Shop

This is one of the little fruit shops in our town, Arroyo de la Miel. They have small supermarkets and little grocery stores on every corner, so you are never more than a stone's throw from a shop! The Spanish tend to get what they need when they see it, and seek out the best things rather than doing a week's food shop like we do. I think they've got the right idea, but I do find the Sainsbury's packing and presentation far outweighs what I've seen here!

We got up and out again this morning, and stopped at a cafe on the corner as there was a lovely breeze. I had a smoothie which came in such an enormous glass I almost had to stand up to drink it! I think they are a bit confused as to how to make smoothie's here- I've been asked if I wanted it made with milk, fair dues, but water? Where's the yoghurt?! We had our little meander around, and walked through some of our old haunts. We've been coming here for 30 years. I was about 7 months old when I first went, and I'm 29 now! We looked at the little square and stopped to take some pictures. We do look like tourists with our cameras out, but honestly, we know exactly how it works here and where to go, and we could really direct the tourists!

We spent the afternoon at home. It's really hot in the afternoons, so you need to escape the heat. It's definitely not as hot as it usually is. When I was here last time is was 42 every day, today (until the big temperature thing broke) it said 30?

As soon as it got cool we wandered back up town again (who doesn't love hiking up that hill twice a day?!) and back to the Volapie. Tonight we, well mainly me, decided to try the menu. I had lovely prawns, and mum, well she ate the bread and breadsticks :-) Only downside was having to use my fingers, so my paws smelled a little fishy afterwards!

We walked home and then I watered the garden. I also cut a lemon off of our tree and stuck my fingers in it to take away the fish smell! We have a lovely little garden, and Gramps was always out here pottering. He used to wait till it was dark, and then go and "do my waterin'". He was happy for company and chatter while he did it, but was always very careful to make sure we didn't come outside as he used to sluice down the patio and steps and was afraid we would break our necks what with everything being made of marble! He himself actually went backwards down the steps in a plastic chair there and managed to jump up unscathed! I suspect there had been a little drinking that afternoon :-)

Although life seems more difficult here, mostly because of the heat, I do love coming here.
