Watch out - there's a tree about!

I was listening to a story on the radio this morning, where they were reporting on London's traditional broadleaf trees being chopped down and replaced with smaller varieties.

We heard from a spokesman for Hillingdon council, and apparently trees have been running amok - causing subsidence, falling on people, that sort of thing. He explained that they didn't get rid of trees lightly: in fact, some of them were even dropping their leaves onto people's cars and driveways.

Perhaps it's no wonder that he kept using the phrase "street trees", as if he was talking about street crime or street gangs.
