Something I thought I would never see

My son, Karl, was only 9 months old when he had his first seizure. For many years he lived with epilepsy, but that never stopped him from always trying and being his best. He didn't let epilepsy rule him. There were times when having it effected his life and disrupt it.

When he was a young boy, he always wanted to be a truck driver, or a bus driver. I didn't have the heart to tell him that he may not be able too because he had epilepsy. The doctor's said that his seizure may stop once he gets older, so I didn't think there was a need to tell him.

When he was a teen, he understood that he will never be able to drive as long as he was having seizures. He got around with a bus, train or his bike. Not once did he complain.

In 2007, Karl had brain surgery. Since then he hasn't had any seizures. He is now living a life he only dreamed of.

A few months ago, he surprised me by telling me that he got his G1 and has been learning to drive. Today he asked if I wanted company. He took a bus and a train to get here 3 hours later. I asked if he wanted to drive around for an hour or so.

This was the second time I have driven with him. Just like the first time, I was filled with so my happiness. I keep thinking of how my parents would have loved to have seen him behind that wheel.

It then hit me. I need to take a picture.
