The big white elephant

I won't bore you with the ongoing saga bout the Edinburgh Trams. The delays, the contractor fall outs, the overspending, the downsizing. At least it gives the taxi drivers something (else) to moan about !

An interesting story though.....I once served on a village hall committee with our local councilor. At the time the tram works were in Leith Walk and the papers were joyfully telling tales of overspending, road closures and inciting people to riot (not literally)!

He passed out a photo of Leith Walk with the roads all dug up. What a mess of pipework! Seems the overspend and delays had a lot to do with, not only, hundreds of years of pipework which was never on any map - but also the huge numbers of dead bodies they found !

Whenever one was found - the archaeologists were called out and all work stopped.

I was lucky enough to visit Nice before and after their tramworks. I only hope our city looks HALF as good when they finally get on the rails.
