just kneel and be done with it

You can only get so low down without placing a knee on the ground. It's much easier to balance when doing so and the raised knee can then be used as a rest for the camera, handy when using a weirdly light camera and longish but very light tele lens which together greatly amplify the wibbles of the hand. Concern for the state of clothing should be secondary to concern for the composition of the photo, though I admit I did refuse to lie down in the puddle in the middle of the tunnel the other Sunday. These bins were apparently not good enough and others from a couple of streets away were eventually used instead.

On the way out of work today I noticed a vague commotion/assemblage outside the door of the flat just to the south of Run4It on Lothian Road. When I drew opposite with the group on the other side of the road two of the people parted briefly to reveal a figure apparently collapsed on the pavement, identifiable by his size and vaguely ethnic-looking hat (and the yipping dog yipping away in the background) as the large ethnic-looking-hat-wearing cycling-on-the-pavement small-yappy-dog-dragging bloke who seemed to always be somewhere between the junction with Fountainbridge and RealFoods on Brougham Place. An ambulance could already be heard approaching and there were enough people standing about attending (as well as merely standing about gawping) so I carried on my way, though wonder what the outcome was.
