Anything left to eat?
The bees and the hover fly population are concentrating their efforts on the few remaining flowers so there is quite a crowd of insects around the ones that are left.
I was out cutting back some of the ivy that grows on the fence and spotted this hover fly. This is a Marsh hover fly rather than the common hover fly of which there are loads around just now.
I don't see many of this type of hover fly, but they are easily identified by the three black stripes on their thorax.
