Auckland Zoo

Having arrived safely back in Auckland, we decided to do something fun for the day and headed to Auckland Zoo.

Lots of the animals appeared to be on vacation, so lots of empty cages which was a shame, but there was still plenty to see, including a Kiwi bird! At least I saw a quick glimpse of the backside of a kiwi as it disappeared deeper into it's habitat. As they are nocturnal the habitat was designed to imitate nighttime, so it was difficult to see much. There were also all the usual suspects, monkeys, various birds native to NZ, lions, etc. it was a nice relaxing day after the drama of yesterday.

We have also booked a trip to Waitomo as we are all keen to get out of Auckland. We leave on an early coach tomorrow morning. It will be good to get out of our hostel, there are eight of us in the dorm at the moment, so pretty crowded!
