Packhorse Bridge - Carrbridge
Our favourite route home from Findhorn / Forres is across the Dava Moor to Carrbridge so today for the first time I actually stopped and walked back to get a photo of this famous old bridge in Carrbridge.
It was built in 1717 so that funeral processions could cross the river Dulnain to get to the church in Duthill. Unfortunately a huge flood in 1824 washed away the low parapets so now it has a rather fragile appearance but has stood through floods ever since.
The Dava Moor road is very scenic but sadly an enormous wildfire that burned for 4 days at the end of June has left a large area surrounding it blackened and with burnt trees. I can only imagine the damage that was done to wildlife at that time of year especially to nesting birds and apparently many hen harrier nests have been lost.
