The Rowan Tree

The Rowan tree or Mountain Ash grows well in mountainous and Moorland areas and always reminds me of Scotland and Dartmoor. It is often referred to in mythology as having special powers but here it grows well at Lamberts Castle where there are several specimens.

Although sometimes called "The Mountain Ash" is is not related to the specious of Ash Tree that is suffering from the "Ash Dieback" that is killing many of out Ash Trees in southwest England

One of the names given to this tree is Quickbeam and that is also a name given to a character in the "Lord of the Rings" who sings a song to a dead Rowan Tree

O rowan mine, I saw you shine upon a summer's day,
Your rind so bright, your leaves so light, your voice so cool and soft:
Upon your head how golden-red the crown you bore aloft!
