Calves and cows
This was my view while I gardened at one of the farm-houses on G's farm this morning.
The calves rushed towards me when I arrived, clearly expecting me to fill their calfateria. They were disappointed and mooed with frustration at me.
It was incredibly windy up there on the plateau. The farm is up the hill behind Chez M&B. It was breezy at home, but nothing ever really prepares me for the gale force winds they experience up there. I was exhausted after gardening the morning away and have had a quieter afternoon - mixing and proving sourdough, writing, and walking with Bean.
The morning started with excitement when a digger was offloaded from a truck just outside my gate. There has been water flowing down the side of the road for a few weeks which the lovely chaps from the Rural Water Scheme have been monitoring. Today was the day to dig it up.
They found two significant leaks in the pipe; one of which was affecting my supply. While I have had water trickling into my tank as usual, it has been noticeably slower. And indeed, half of my supply was disappearing down the road (at no cost to me)! But no longer.
I really wish I had photographed the digger at work, but I was too busy chatting with Kevin the engineer and enjoying the spectacle of an expert digger-driver expose pipes without breaking them. It is quite an art.
The winds have eased this afternoon, thank goodness.
