Simon

This picture is of a juvenile gull, on the shores of the Frioul archipelago off the coast of Marseille.

A month ago I was here, it didn't feel like real life, in a lovely and detached way. I named this gull Simon, and have since immortialised him in watercolour...I tend to have excessive empathy for the birds that seem to be nationally hated in England..gulls and pigeons.

But I am days from starting my new job, a qualified children's nurse...a big milestone.
9 years since I started working in the hospital and 5 years in education to get here. Terrifying, exciting, a big "don't f**ck it up" feeling.

Achievements like this feel so intensley lonley when the people you wanted to celebrate with aren't here.

I always have a way of making things sad? But they are sad. Anyway, I do wonder what Simon is up to now, jealous of his surroundings.
