Cloud Show: Prince Gallitzin / Soldiers & Sailors

My husband began his morning with a medical appointment in town, but once he was done with that, we had big plans for our day. We planned to go to Ebensburg, for me to do some of my usual walking tour (this time I skipped the cemeteries, and focused on shopping at the ultra-fun High Street Emporium*), and for him to meet friends. He picked me up at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial, now known as the Veterans Park of Cambria County; you may see a shot of that in the extras.

Along the way, we went through Carrolltown and snagged some Himmel's silver queen sweet corn, which I am looking forward to trying soon. We finished our day with what was probably our last swim of the summer at Prince Gallitzin - I wore my fancy new black swimsuit with lace, and my husband wore his new Muk Luk sandals. The swim area can be slick and it is coated with tiny rocks, so a water shoe of some sort is well advised.

We wrapped up our trip by making it safely back via the Janesville Pike, this time, without incident (for a change!) and grabbed a pair of hoagies at Mac's to take home for our supper. (Here are links to two recent misadventures - one here, second one here - where the Janesville Pike chewed us up and spit us out, but good!)

I've chosen two photos for this day. The one above shows the reflections of the amazing cloud show on the water at Prince Gallitzin (more photos here on Instagram). My husband is in the shot, but he is just a tiny bobbing head, sort of in the middle of the photo, way out by the ropes that demarcate the swim area. (It's been nearly exactly 39 years since we shared our first kiss - on a canoe at Prince Gallitzin - so I shouted out, "Happy kissiversary!")

The photo in the extras shows the cloud show over the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial in Ebensburg, which bears 22 panels featuring the names of Cambria County soldiers who served in each of these wars: American Revolution, War of 1812, Mexican War, Civil War, and Spanish-American War.

In more personal military history, my husband's father, a World War II Navy veteran, gave a Memorial Day speech at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial, on the next-to-last Memorial Day that he was alive (he gave his talk in 2009, and passed in December 2010). I can still picture him standing here, giving his speech. (Interestingly enough, he spent much of his time on board ship in the brig, for boozing and brawling, and that's the truth, though those details were NOT featured in his Memorial Day speech, LOL!)

I've got two photos so here are two soundtrack songs. First, for my cloud show over Prince Gallitzin, the site of our first kiss, I've got Prince, with Kiss. For my second shot, of the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial, I've got Nathan Evans, with Drunken Sailor, which I've been playing on repeat, along with several other tunes from his Wellerman album that I bought the other day.

*The last photo in the Instagram set for the High Street Emporium shows the two rings I bought, for $10 each.
