A Meandering Life...

Bed Rock

This is the view from my front door in the early evening sun. This bed has always been an overgrown clump of heather with a fair amount of grass growing through it.

A week or so ago I decided I would grub much of it out and start again. I had been told by neighbours it had started out as a rock garden, I didn't expect to find a quarry!

These rocks would have cost well over a thousand pounds back in the early 1990s. All of them have not been exposed yet. I think it would be a shame not to give them pride of place again.

The area on the left is what I have gone so far. On the right you can see the thick woody heathers and grass. The rocks were at least a foot under the edges and there was a much larger plant on the top. I'm thinking of replacing them with alpines and succulents. I will seek advice.

To offset the loss of the heathers for the bees I have started to plant more salvias in the extended bed that is to the right of this one.
