Tibouchina Grandifolia

Tibouchina grandifolia is an impressive plant. I have never seen one before. After our morning bike ride, Moira and I stopped to see the new flowers that were in bloom at our neighbor's home. I am always impressed when a Floridian manages to keep their flowers alive in our very humid hot summer weather. I was most curious that this plant had purple blooms with white centers and red centers. After looking up the information on this pretty flower, I found out that they open with a white center that turns red the next day. How cool is that? The leaves are very large and fuzzy and the stems are four-sides. The plant is a native of Brazil that can grow to be 6-7 foot tall. The flower is fragrant if you stick your nose right in the bloom! I know because I did that.

I have to say I am not very knowledgeable or skilled with my little point and shot. I miss my Nikon. This was the best of my shots. I did appreciate everyone's comments on my juicy camera. My husband had quite a chuckle over some comments.
