Strange stuff!

Noticed this strange 'growth' on our walks & wondered what it is .... any ideas?

It seems to be 'draped' over a Hawthorn ..... the top image is a close-up & the bottom image is a full view of it.

Hope somebody knows what it is :-)

Update ~ thanks Evolybab for the ID ~ Old Man's Beard also known as Traveller's-joy (Clematis vitalba)

Extra ~ the young Swallows ..... now out of the nest & resting on the rafters.
